I converted my Physical Win2k8 Server (DC) to a Virtual Server using VMWare vConverter. After getting it to boot up in the Virtual environment I have few issues; 1. The Active Directory Domain Service give an error stating that "Naming Information cannot be loacated for the following reasons : The Server is not operational" All the services are up & running & Even viewer has no errors. 2. Ethernet Controller did not take the relevant drivers even when I inserted the CD. 3. Base System Drivers are missing.....

I tried to restore the Server from a clone to the Virtual Environment on Virtual BOX/VMM & Virtual Machine Manager but it does not work either

I am staring at the wall right now. Can anyone point me in the direction of a possible solution?

The Server Core installation option for the Microsoft Windows Server 2008 R2 operating system provides a minimal environment for running specific server. I want to run a minimal linux build Virtual machine on this installation. Is it possible? Can i use a Vmware virtual machine ?

I will answer your questions first:

    Q) Is it possible to run GNU/Linux virtual machine on server core
    A) Yes with HyperV role

    Q) Can I use a VMWare Virtual Machine
    A) No. There is limited capabilities for the Server Core UI.

You could enable the Hyper-V role on your server. If you have a Vista or Win 7 machine you can also download the HyperV management tools to assist in creating your virtual machines.
