networking - Can't find my home WLAN
2014-04
I'm not sure if this the correct place to ask this. (If it is the wrong place, please guide me...)
I just installed my Home WLAN after a reset. Now, I can access it with my smartphone without any problems, but from my computer, I can't find the WLAN. I've such a stick installed on my computer, without any brand name on it:
Then I inserted an old USB-WLAN Stick by D-Link (DWA-160), and it find it.
So why I can't find the WLAN with this thing above? Maybe because I configurated the WLAN Router over a LAN Cable? Then this undefinied stick can find every single WLAN around my house (it has a very good reachability), but not my home WLAN
I'm about to going crazy...
Some hardware infos:
Os: Windows 8.1
Router: D-Link 645
USB-Stick: D-Link DWA 160
The thing you pictured is not a Wi-Fi adapter, it is just an antenna, which is just a passive hunk of metal.
Whatever you screwed it onto is probably your Wi-Fi adapter, or at least an antenna cable that connects to your Wi-Fi adapter.
So what's your Wi-Fi adapter?
i have a wifi network at home -> works well. I think it's set up to use WPA-SPK or whatever that funky wifi protocol is. (But i can change that, if required).
Anyways, it only gets to half of the house because of interference (eg. fridges). So, i was hoping to extend the home wifi network.
The IT guys at work have a spare D-Link DI-634M router modem wifi thingy.
Can I use this to extend my home wifi network? If so, what are the key settings i would need to check/change/tweak? I've never done this before.
I've also found this Emulator on their website, if that helps ?
Look at network bridging. Linksys device here
You might want to look to see if your device can be flashed to use dd-wrt instead. That firmware has great support for doing network bridging with consumer hardware routers.
edit: your device isn't supported unfortunately. However, many linksys devices are and the dd-wrt firmware provides much functionality for free. Further googling revealed that your device doesn't support bridging at all.
