display - Compatible wire cable for laptop screen

While trying to replace my laptop screen, I have damaged the wire cable connecting the screen to the motherboard.

Consequently, I am trying to find and buy a new cable to replace the damaged one. I do not know how to go about that, my problem is that my laptop is not from a large compagny like Dell or Asus, it's an LDLC (this one : http://www.ldlc.com/fiche/PB00120537.html)

Here are the infos I could come up with:

    • I have contacted LDLC (they cannot provide a new cable), they informed me that my computer chassis (base/ frame, I'm not sure what the correct word is) is a Clevo W251HNQ.
    • The screen is a LP156WD1-TLB2
    • Linux tells me (lshw) that my motherboard is a Dell Inc 0XD720 Edit : No! That's wrong
    • Below is a photo of the "head" of the damaged cable: (I think the first line reads "Wire cable for LVDS").

Is someone had a clue how/where I can find a replacement cable, I would be very grateful.

This looks like a standard LVDS (low voltage differential signalling) connector, commonly used for laptop LCD screens.

In which case, replacements can be found on-line. The only thing is to buy a cable that will fit in your laptop. Length does not have to be exact, but its always better to have a longer cable than one that is too short. You can't cut and splice these effectively, not without good expensive tools anyway..

According to the specs you will be looking for a 40pin 2CH 6-Bit LVDS cable. I would like you to post up pictures of both connections on the cable, to confirm that it is not a proprietary socket (highly doubt it as it's not apple).

Also, I tried to find information on your motherboard... Dell Inc 0XD720 Couldn't find anything. It seems pretty old, used on a Dell Inspiron 6400... http://www.notebookreview.com/notebookreview/dell-inspiron-6400-review-pics-spaecs/ It is Highly unlikely it is the same as the one on your computer. Hoping linux is just reporting false readings.

HP Laptop - Black screen when turned on everything else is working
  • anujprashar

I have HP Pavilion DV4T-2100 model running windows 7. Today when I turn it on I got black screen and it is not showing anything at all. Everything else is working. I can hear fan noise, LEDs lights are blinking and even I can hear window welcome tone when window starts and also as I know my first screen is password screen when that tone is played I type password and press enter and I can hear sound that is played when user login inside system. Only thing that is missing is display as screen is completely black all time. I have done removing battery and pressing power button for 30-60 seconds many times but no success. The screen is remain black all time. Please tell me what is the problem. Is there any defect with hardware or I have to replace anything.

Edit: When connected to external monitor display is showing up but when display is switched to laptop it does not shows up anything it remains black(not completely black but bright black screen). Is there a fault with laptop screen or wire that connects with screen to other part. What is possible fault if it is working with external monitor.

Edit no. 2: Got it checked from a technician and he told me that it is motherboard fault and it needs to be replaced. Is he right about it? Please share your experience if you have replaced same problem.

    Thanks in advance.

    Regards, Anuj

I had this same issue when I was working with a client's laptop about a week ago. The problem was that one of the wires behind the screen was being pinched, hence cutting off the signal. Worst case scenario, you may have to replace your screen.

There is an IC for display also called "display chip" which gets exhausted.

    There are 2 solutions:

    1. There is a technique called "reballing" which needs to be done on that chip, basically it's a kind of soldering of the chip.
    2. You can change the chip.

First thing, try to replace the inverter. If nothing works after that, then change the cable that connects the motherboad and the display. As a last resort, if nothing else works, change the entire display.
