networking - Diagnose intermittent drop in wifi

I have my computer and game console connected to a router which is acting as a repeater for the wireless signal from our cable modem. The signal is almost always fine, but I will occasionally be kicked out of a game match on the game console or lose a skype call on my computer. The connection comes back almost instantly, however.

How can I diagnose what's wrong? It seems that it would either have to be my connection to the router, the router's connection to the modem, or the modem's connection to the internet which is cutting out, but I don't know which it is. How can I find out?

I am using a hp spectrext ultrabook with windows 8 ,connected to a wifi router with wep encryption. The problem is that I am getting intermittent connection. i have even had my wireless nic card changed but the issue persists.

I am using a 2wire 2701hgv-e modem router. I don't think its a modem/router issue because I am getting intermittent connection elsewhere too.

How should I diagnose this problem??
