performance - Google Chrome working incredibly slow

So recently I have received a new laptop for work.

It's pretty decent, i5 with 4GB of ram and hybrid SSD hard drive. Google Chrome was always my default browser and it works painfully slow here, I can start typing, finish a sentence and it doesn't even display the first phrase yet. Whenever I inspect element or look up the website source, I can make a coffee in the meantime. No other browser has this problem (Firefox, Opera, IE, Safari). I'm working (trying to work) on the latest version of Chrome.

What can I do to check what can be the cause of this?

    Simple

    1. Uninstall and Reinstall Chrome - if that doesn't fix it

    2. Optimize your computer

    i use the following process

go to msconfig utility (only if you know how to do this) and uncheck all unnecessary startup items from the list if you unsure, leave them checked don't touch anything that has system32 in the file path

then remove all Unused Programs from Add/Remove Programs

then, and only then Get Auslogics Boostpeed, and do that Remember to Clean first then optimize, Not in any random order Auslogics is a very good program, but it's not free, it's not expensive either

i then, as ongoing maintenance, Use Koshyjohn Diskmax,

those 2 combined Prove to be very very helpful, they increase the speed of any PC that i have worked on since XP by about 70% or so

if you don't want to buy Boostspeed, Just use Diskmax then, it won't be as good of a clean but it will help

You will not get the Computer Tweaks Benefit out of it but.. if you Use Auslogics for the trial period, you will, but you won't be able to Clean and Optmiize your registry

in your case, though, i think You need to Tweak your computer, do that and let me know how you went,

the software is safe, if you need advice on any of the steps i'm here to help

    that should work for you

after all that, There would be absolutely no reason Why Chrome on it's own would lag

    let me know how go

performance - Chrome 6 shows tabs only after a long delay when many tabs are open
  • tobeannounced

I have the issue that when I have a lot of tabs open, switching to a new tab will cause a long delay in page loading, making the application pretty hard to use.

I do have 4GB of ram, however Chrome seems to reach this level quite often - is there anything I can do - other than controlling the amount of tabs I have open - to address this and the tab delays that it causes?

Would buying a SSD help my cause? Currently Chrome is installed on a 7200 rpm hard-drive.

First, check to see if there's anything that's obviously gobbling up all your RAM. Press Shift+Esc to bring up the Chrome task manager, and sort by memory usage, then by CPU utilization. You'll probably see just a couple processes that ran away with all your system resources. You can try to kill the hogs to speed things up again. Also, try uninstalling Flash or get something like FlashBlock, which prevents Flash applets from running unless you click on them to activate them.

The SSD will only help if you put your Windows page file on it. It's probably not the best use of an SSD, since paging (i.e., lots of writes) will shorten the life of the drive, but in real-world terms, the drive may last long enough to last until you get a new computer. If you store files on the drive in addition to using it as a paging volume, the wear-leveling algorithms won't be as effective, so I'd just recommend using drive exclusively for paging and caching.

If you think it's primarily a hardware limitation, you're probably better off upgrading to 6 or 8 GB of RAM, assuming you're running a 64-bit OS and your motherboard has free RAM slots and/or supports higher-capacity modules.
