Essentially I have found this guide, but it is for miktex, i need a guide for texlive on Debian/Ubuntu which will not pollute dpkg installed texmf.

I'm interested in converting TrueType font to be usable in (pdf)(La)TeX.

All the power google turn up just stuff f relating how to install microsoft fonts or do stuf on MikTeX.

I CANNOT USE XeLaTeX!!! I use pstricks and the font must be available in plain TeX! Otherwise my document looks inconsistent!

Prepare to enter a world of pain. I've been down this road recently and still haven't gotten correct output:

    http://xpt.sourceforge.net/techdocs/language/latex/latex33-LaTeXAndTrueTypeFont/ar01s03.html
    http://www.ctan.org/tex-archive/fonts/utilities/otfinst/

I've gotten further with otfinst.py, where "further" means "the fonts appear but the metrics are horribly horribly wrong (like overlapping glyphs, wrong)".

My suggestion: learn to love Computer Modern Roman. It shouldn't be this hard.

ubuntu - How do I install fonts on Linux Mint?

I have some external fonts called Eaglefeather (Frank Lloyd Wright fonts) and I want to install them on to my Linux machine running Linux Mint 7 (Ubuntu based). I can't seem to get them to install which looks to me like just copying them to the /usr/local/share/fonts directory.

Create a folder in your home directory (ie. ~) called .fonts and paste all fonts there.

This should work since it's ubuntu based but I'm not 100% sure.

Starting in Linux Mint 8 (based on Ubuntu 9.10), there is an integrated font installer, which I describe in my blog post here: http://zootlinux.blogspot.com/2010/01/ubuntu-910s-integrated-font-installer.html Font installer

Any chance you could upgrade? It would make font installing easier.
