How to sort bookmarks by date in Chrome web browser

  • Anonymous User

Chrome is somehow missing one of the most basic features you would expect on a web browser: sorting bookmarks by date. Is there any way around this issue besides not using Chrome? I love Chrome but I have thousands of bookmarks.

Chrome Bookmark Manager does allow users to sort bookmarks by name, but it only allows you to do this for one folder at a time.

Chrome Bookmarks Sorter is a handy tool (for Windows) which will allow users to sort bookmarks recursively by name or date added through all of your bookmark folders.

To recursively sort bookmarks in Google Chrome, close all Google Chrome windows and launch this application, select the parameters you want to sort the bookmarks as, and click on the Sort Bookmarks button.

The utility will take care of reordering the bookmarks as you have chosen. Chrome Bookmarks Sorter is a portable software.

I found that Chrome extension Recent Bookmarks works well for me on Mac and Ubuntu where the Chrome Bookmark Sorter is Windows-only.

Update: When I got a new machine and logged into my Google account, previous Chrome bookmark order was no longer correctly preserved. Still the best alternative I've found for non-Windows, but not perfect.

I strongly recommand this chrome extension:

It is powerfull, fast and you have 10 options like Delete duplicates, Delete Empty Directories, Sort Methods etc...

    Hope this helps!

New bookmark syn for Google Chrome?
  • jasondavis

On the new Google Chrome new tab page, you will notice in the image below that there is a link for the new extensions page and next to it you see the bookmark sync link which actuually does not link to anywhere. I have been wishing for chrome to integrate bookm arks better with the google user account so I could have my organized bookmarks from any computer but now that I see this new link "bookmark sync" on the bottom of the new tab page I am curious, is there a new bookmark sync feature for chrome now?

The bookmark sync syncs to Google Toolbar bookmarks... (details). Nice and all, but I had hoped it would be an option to at least use Google's Bookmark service too. Alas.

With the beta version of Chrome you can also look into using the Xmarks extension. Good sign of 3rd party integration solving this challenge long-term.
