During updating bios to the new version (1.18) i got an error that computer can't read rom file. Then after reboot server did not start. Actually it starts but does not show anything, screen is blank, no system beeps or led signals.

The question is, how can i recover it? I can't find any information about.

I have experience on this, and I can tell you that your computer is dead. Sorry but that's the truth, there's no (officially) known way to repair or recover a badly flashed bios image. You're stuck with these options:

    1. Send it to the manufacturer to repair.
    2. Buy a new motherboard.
    3. Sell it as parts and buy a new computer (if it's a laptop).

There are very few software issues that can render a PC useless, and this is one of them (if not the only).

Alternatively, and given the correct knowledge, you may want to take a look at this question.

laptop - Vostro 1520 crash during bios update
  • Questioner

My Vostro 1520 (P8700 C2D) originally came with BIOS A02. This bios version have known problems with VT, so I had to upgrade to A05. During the upgrade, the notebook crashed. Needless to say, it won't boot anymore.

The simple question is: is there a way to access the bios boot block to recover the bad flash with a crisis disk? I know that the MINI and the ALIENWARE models have this feature, but I can't seem to find anything about it in the Vostro machines.

Any help will be much appreciated.

PS: Dell's solution is to change the motherboard, but it will take several days, as the board isn't available in my country :(

sorry to say that, but Dell's solution is the only viable solution, it's bricked.

anything you do may only void the warranty.
