At our company, we use Nagstamon to monitor our Nagios alerts. It's a standalone app that doesn't require a web browser, and installs on Linux.

Is there a similar widget to monitor Jenkins dashboard from a Linux desktop?

Plasma that is part of KDE uses WebKit to run widgets. OS X also uses WebKit for it's widgets so some of the OS X widgets works as well.
