openoffice.org - LibreOffice 4.2.1.1: do not display list of recent documents

    Today I installed LibreOffice 4.2.1.1. When opening LO, it displays a list of recent documents with screenshots, similar to Firefox and Chrome. I don't want this. How can I disable this setting?

    There are two ways to disable the "PickList" / MRU:

    • tweaking the config
    • using an extension

    Tweaking the config:

    1. Open the LibreOffice config: Menu "Tools" -> "Config";
    2. In the TreeView: "LibreOffice" -> "Advanced"
    3. Button "Expert Configuration" enter image description here
    4. In the preferences list, scroll down to preference "/org.openoffice.Office.Common/History"
    5. Select the second property "PickListSize"
    6. Click "Edit", set the value to "0"

    Take care that this won't clear the history / MRU, it will just affect how much entries will be visible. If you increase the value after setting it to 0, the "old" history entries will appear again.

    Use the History Master extension

    Check the OpenOffice.org Extension "History Master". It works for me like a charm in LibreOffice 4.2.0.4 and will allow to do some other nice things besides managing the PickList/MRU length.

    When there was Go-OO everything was simple - just install the application and install all languages you need via language pack installers.

    Now, as OOo and LO 3.3 ar out and Go-OO seems to be discontinued (its download site hosts LibreOffice 3.3 now) it seems even simpler (there is one multilanguage installer with all the languages available to choose there) but it is not.

    After Installing LibreOffice (Win32) using all-language installer choosing all the languages I'd like (En-US, En-GB, Ru, Cz, Sk, De, Fr) to have (both for spell checking and as an option for GUI&docs language) I've found that many useless (for me) spelling dictionaries (like African, Norwegian, Estonian, Viet, etc) are available (despite I haven't chosen them in the installer) in the application, but Czech (while Czech GUI is there BTW) and Russian are not (despite I have explicitly chosen to install them).

    How to correct this? I can live without Russian dictionary, but Czech is must-have for me.

    OpenOffice.org site hosts language modules for all languages available. (Some of them do not qualify to be included into LibreOffice distribution, mostly due to license issues.)
