windows 7 - My computer needs restart after it is idle for a while

    I am not sure what is exactly happening with my computer but this is fist time that I am noticing something like this.

    • Whenever, I leave my laptop idle for few minutes, it goes in this Hibernate kind of mode(not exactly hibernate).
    • Once it goes into that mode, problem is that it does not come back. If I touch the mouse pad or I press power button for a while.

    Eventually, when I press the power button for a long time, it restarts it. I am not sure what is going on but I do not want to be restarting the machine every time I leave it for sometime.

    Any ideas/solutions?

    This often happens for a few reasons. One, your RST (intel rapid storage technology driver) is not up to date. When a PC comes out of hibernate, it needs to load the state that existed beforehand from a file called "hiberfil.sys" back into system memory. Sometimes, there is a disconnect between the HDD on your PC because of this outdated RST driver. Second, it may happen due to an outdated iGPU or discrete GPU driver, make sure to update those.

    However, a lot of times you may think you know what is happening and it's not actually occurring, so a few questions for you:

    1. When you let it go, does it actually turn off? Or are there still LEDs flickering next to your battery symbol, etc ?

    2. Is it going into hibernate, or sleep?

    3. If you put your computer to sleep manually can you wake it up immediately after?

    My new PC (Intel Core Quad Q8400 2.66GHz, 2GB RAM) came with Windows 7 Ultimate 32-bit. It will wake up with a wireless keyboard after hibernation or suspend but it gets stuck there. It doesn't seem to recognize the keyboard, wireless mouse or digital board (pen) after it wakes up, and the screen is a bit darker than normal - however I can see the clock running normally, so I believe the PC has not frozen.

    I had to reboot manually every time it went to sleep and it open it in safe mode. Now I have disabled sleep mode, but I have to turn the computer on manually each time or leave it powered on forever.

    I have tried:

    • Updated NVIDIA GeForce 8400 graphics card driver
    • Updated mouse and keyboard drivers (Genius LuxeMate 3000)
    • Fixed energy power settings to hybrid sleep off
    • Turned hibernation on
    • Turned sleep to never
    • Fixed awake with device manager (mouse - keyboard - pen board)
    • Fixed BIOS S1/S3 enabled wake with keyboard

    However nothing has changed. Any ideas?

    I use Win 7 Ultimate 64-bit. I got the same problem. My PC froze when I left it for about 30 minutes. I tried everything that is advised on internet. Everything failed. By luck, I tried to manually put my PC to sleep mode by clicking Start->Shutdown ->Sleep whenever I leave my PC for a long period of time. It works for me, so I just want to share. Hope it works for you too.
