I just bought a router ASUS RT-N10E and I'm having big problems with it. What I mean is that I can't reach the maximum speed that I'm supposed to...I have an internet bandwidth of 100mb/s and when I connect my pc directly to the cabble of the internet I get that speed...I mean I can download internationally with 11mb/s down speed and upload with 1mb/s+ , when I set up my router all I can get is 1.6-1.7 mb/s. Can something be done about this? Is there any solution to fix it? I have a lot of options in the router's setup page but I'm kinda new with this and I'm lost...I don't know how to make it work at the maximum speed.

    Thank you

I feel it is a similar question to this one. The provided answer is:

Typical 802.11g Wireless has a theoretical maximum of 54Mbps. Typical wired 10/100 Ethernet has a theoretical maximum of 100 Mbps. So in theory wired is faster.

However, these speeds are only on your local network. Most high-speed internet connections range from 1Mbps to 25 Mbps. Even on faster internet connections you're only approaching 1/2 of the full throughput of your wireless system.

In practice, its not likely you will see much of a difference unless you are transferring very large amounts of data across your local network.

I typically make the wired/wireless decision based on the usage of the machine. If it is a desktop that will never move, wired is the way to go. If its a laptop that will be mobile, the convenience of wireless by far out weighs any difference in transmission speed.

internet - can router configuration cause decreasing of download rate?

My download speed got crazy since I changed the router's IP. But nothing got fixed after doing a factory reset.

The speed was 1024 kb/s (128 kB/s) but it is 200kb/s (max) right now. I mean it works good if a request is small (i.e. a HTTP request) but it gets slow if a request has a big response.

Help me please. (It is three days I'm downloading VS2010.)

You should try changing your router MAC Address. In the router settings there should be a button to let you clone your computers MAC address. I've heard several accounts where this change has increased speed greatly.

Try Disable (turn off) the Firewall of the router. It can solve many speed related problem. Also turn off router at night or at non usage times to save the over heating of the router. Overheated router usually hangs.
