firefox - Sites with google tracking not loading properly
2014-04
I'm having a strange issue with sites that have Google analytics tracking on them (including this very site).
Chrome DevTools/ Firefox Firebug are showing the following resources as failed to load after about 60 seconds:
Sites that have these scripts either load very slowly or fail to load at all. When I try to view the script directly in the browser they fail to load, however, when I drop the www. from the URL, they load just fine.
I've also noticed that sites that use api.google.com also fail to load - for example, maps.google.com.
- I have this issue in all browsers, including Chrome, FF, Safari and IE (all latest versions).
- I'm on Windows 7 with latest updates as of two days ago.
- Virus scan didn't return any issues.
- My Android tablet and phone connected to the same network have no issues at all, so I don't think it's a problem with the router.
- In Chrome I do use AdBlock, but as stated above, this is affecting all browsers, so I don't think AdBlock is the issue. Disabling it didn't do anything.
- ipconfig /flushdns didn't help
This just started happening today. No issues yesterday.
Does anyone have any ideas as to what else I should try?
UPDATE:
Problem is resolved. It appears there is an issue with Google Public DNS. I had my Win7 settings set to use 8.8.8.8 and 8.8.4.4 (google public dns) but switching this back to my ISP DNS immediately resolved the issue.
Freelancer.com for me is loading very slowly, and all other sites load fine.
This occurs in all browsers (FF, Chrome, IE) latest versions.
When I access through http://anonymouse.org/ or Hidemyass it loads completely fine.
I use Google DNS and have tried turning this off to no avail. I do not use any proxies.
Any help much appreciated.
Edit:
This is the traceroute if it is of any help:

There's probably a network problem between you and the site, that's why accessing through a different location works fine.
You probably cannot solve this yourself, but if it persists you can contact your network provider or change provider if the connectivity isn't good enough.
You can do a traceroute to get some idea of where the issue may lie and forward the same info to your network provider.
Edit2*: I just noticed that it was hosted on an Amazon EC2 instance. They may have done changes to the DNS which takes time to propogate. You might try one of the following:
On windows:
ipconfig /flushdns
You might find a temporary fix using alternate DNS-servers, but the problem should clear itself up.
One other option could be an issue in your hosts file. Check the file at:
C:\Windows\system32\drivers\etc
It is called hosts.
and contains redirects specific to your pc. Make sure there is not a line mentioning that site, or it's IP address.
I think it is likely just an issue with the internet between you and the site and it should probably fix itself soon.
