64 bit - speed issues with third generation i5 processeurs

I have just bought a new Windows 8 Ultrabook with a third generation i5 3317u processor. My professional programs run much slower than on the old computer which is 8 years old (running on an M4 SDD put in 3 years ago).

    • I have been astounded to discover that the computer is running a 0,7GHZ even when running the most difficult bits of the OMNIS7 based program. (which is 32bits)
    • When running Microsoft access the speed is stunning and the processeur runs a 2,4 or 2,53GHZ. Is this a unique function of programs running in 64 bits excluding the programs running in 32 bit compatibility?

Can anyone help. As I understand it I will have to buy a second hand computer without the energy saving functions of the newer processors until this issue is resolved.

You need to go into your bios. Here is some steps.

This really depends on the motherboard and the processor. Many MBs have support for underclocking built right into the BIOS configuration settings. Fewer have support for overclocking built in. Most mobile and even some desktop processors support decreasing processor speed based on runtime conditions (PCs idle state, power management settings, running from battery or outlet) this is known as powerstepping.

Older MBs used jumpers to control the clock speed and voltage of the processor. This is where the idea of overclocking really began to take off.
