windows 8 - Win8: Wireless network connection drops intermittently

I have a Dell Inspiron 3520 64-bit running Win8, and the wireless connection drops once or twice a day for no apparent reason. I have googled for solutions and have already unchecked the box "allow computer to turn off this device to save power" on my wireless adapter, but to no avail. Additional info:

    • Problem has occurred on 3 completely different wireless networks, so is unlikely to be an issue with the router.
    • The other laptop in our house (Win7), as well as two iPads, work without any connection drops.
    • Usually if I put the wireless adapter into "Airplane mode" -- which turns it off -- and then take it back out of airplane mode, the internet connection will return.

What can I do to fix this and get a reliable wireless connection?

    Thanks!

Try the latest drivers offered by your manufacturer.

If that doesn't help, then try a fresh OS/Windows install.

If those don't affect it, then based on all the other testing you did, it's probably a malfunctioning WiFi adapter in the Dell and it will need to go in for repair.

After reinstalling windows XP on my laptop, I've noticed that about ever 3 mins, my wireless network connection will disconnect and then reconnect. I found the following error in the system event log:

If the network adapter was not disconnected, this may indicate that it has malfunctioned. Please contact your vendor for updated drivers.

I've downloaded and installed the latest driver from Dell. I have inspiron 600m and wireless card is "Dell Wireless 1450 Dual Band WLAN Mini-PCI Card".

When I am connected to my wireless network, everything works fine, it just gets interupted every 3 mins. I have other computers connected to the network that work fine too. thanks.

    Found this KB: http://support.microsoft.com/kb/814123

I tried this, but in order to do it I had to switch from using the Dell wireless configuration utility, to the windows tool.

In anycase, one of these two things fixed it.

This is usually caused by the power saving settings of the WLAN adapter.

Change the value to OFF or CAM (constantly awake mode).
