cpu - Can AMD Piledriver / Vishera run Windows 8 Hyper-V and does it support SLAT?
2013-08
According to this How-To Geek article, a CPU needs to support Second Level Address Translation (SLAT) in order to run Hyper-V in Windows 8. The article shows a Command Prompt method to determine whether one's CPU supports it. I don't have an AMD Piledriver/Vishera CPU, so I cannot use that method. Vishera (Piledriver) is not on the list of AMD's Hyper-V compatible processors, but Zambezi (Bulldozer) is. Is Vishera really not compatible, or is the list outdated?
Has anyone with a Vishera CPU and Windows 8 gotten Hyper-V to create and run virtual machine(s) and tried this Command Prompt method? If so, what is the Command Prompt output when trying that command?
If not, does anyone have a source to confirm whether Vishera supports Windows 8 Hyper-V?
Yes in fact it does. AMD posted a list of all of it's processors that do support Hyper-V. The list can be found here. While pile-driver is not specifically listed when you look you find Zambezi. (all of this you mentioned) Now look in the second colum. It says FX-series. This implys that all FX series. Since the Piledriver is the FX-8350 ( or 20) it should also be supported.

I would like to know if it is possible, (not from a legality standpoint, but from a technical standpoint), to run Mac OS X on a Hyper-V VM. This would make testing so much easier as I would not have to go dig up and old Mac or find someone and borrow their laptop.
No. Hyper-V is very specific about supported OS's and the generic drivers are very Microsoft specific.
